Saugeye

Stizostedion Vitreum x Stizostedion Canadense

Description:

This is a hybrid fish. It is a cross between a sauger and a walleye. They are very similar in shape, but they have very different body color. Sauger have a kind of army color to them. Walleye are typically a solid color, usually golden. As you can tell, the saugeye gets its color from the sauger.

Notes:

Saugeye and sauger are difficult to distinguish. They look very similar. The only reason I believe this is a saugeye is because it has some white coloring in its tail. I'm pretty sure sauger don't have that. Plus, in the '90s the DNR stocked our reservoir with saugeye. There are sauger downstream from it, but I'm not sure how far away they are...

Sauger definitely do not have the white tip on the tail fin. Your fish also seems to have spotting on the dorsal fin which is also a field mark. Nice catch
