Great Egret (non-breeding)

Ardea alba

Description:

Entirely white plumage with contrasting black feet and long, black legs. Bright yellow bill.

Habitat:

Lawns attached to the ancient Sun temple at Modhera.

Notes:

Previously called Casmerodius albus. Easy distinction I learnt: 1. Little Egret. Black legs, yellow feet and black bill. 2.Great Egret: Black feet and yellow beak (non breeding) but bill is black in breeding plumage. 3. Cattle egret : reddish legs and colourful beak (pink, yellow) and 4. Intermediate Egret has wispy feathers on the front and back, black bill, legs and feet.
