Water Scavenger Beetle

poss. Hydrophilus ensifer

Description:

This beetle is almost two inches long. It was attracted to some bright lights at a local skatepark.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 7 weeks into the rainy season.

Hydrophilidae I would say, and my closest guess would be Hydrophils sp., but not triangularis. Ensiferus? Insularis? There are about 40 species of Hydrophilidae in Costa Rica.

Wasn't sure if the ID was totally right - that ID is for Europe. But it seems similar. Glad you got a better ID, though. :)
