Australia's smallest honeyeater, a delicate and fast little bird, males are stunning in red and black feathers (Red head, front, neck and down back, black wings and tail edged in white, white under rump, slender, long curved beak, black eyes, females plain brown grey lighter underneath with soft blush of pink on breast, young males have patchy red where adult breeding males have full colour, a nectar eater, also indulges in insects, sings continuously as if feeds, nomadic, sometimes seen in small flocks but usually alone or in pairs.
Found throughout the eastern regions of Australia.
