Description:

Large palm like leaves, can grow tall to mostly 4ft but can get up to 16ft. Spines found on the top and underneath along the veins of the leaves as well as the stems. Spike like stem of umbrella shaped yellow to green flowers. After it flowers red berries form. (as seen in photos) Needle like spines can cause skin irritations.

Habitat:

Found mostly in the Pacific North west in forests.

The native americans used it as medicine and food. Said they used it for treating tumors, diabetes and tuberculosis. Devil's club hung over a doorway is said to ward off evil.
But the plant itself is related to the American ginseng
