Alligator mississippiensis
One of the largest reptiles in the world and an able hunter in the water. Alligators are protected and have been on the decline in the wild, but are still easily found in Central Florida. This was a medium sized alligator nearing 7 feet long.
Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, FL.
This one made me just a touch nervous. This was not taken with a large zoom lens. This gator swam in from about 30 yards out and came with 10 yards for this photo, but he did not seem aggressive, just watchful.
