Whistling Moth

Hecatesia fenestrata

Description:

The forewings of the adult moths are black with white markings, and the hind wings are orange with a black margin. The abdomen is orange on top and black underneath.

Habitat:

Attracted to the night lights on deck....was still there in the AM.

Notes:

Male whistling moths fly just after sunset, circling an opening whilst making a sound. Other males will join the display, competing for the nearby females. The sound is created by ridged windows on the wings. http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au...
