Osprey

Pandion haliaetus

Description:

Often confused with bald eagles, the more common Osprey can be distinguished by it's white underside and black eyestripe. Possibly the best fishing birds out there, the Ospreys diet is almost entirely fish. They will dive great distances to catch their prey.

Habitat:

Circle B Bar Reserve, Lakeland, FL.

Notes:

I've always admired Osprey's and enjoy seeing them nest on the lightpoles and powerlines of Central Florida. The Osprey habitat and birds in this nature reserve are some of the best I've ever seen. This one was taking its time enjoying the fresh catch of the day.
