Speckled Alder

Alnus rugosa

Description:

The Speckled Alder grows to 20 feet. Forms thickets along waterways. Woody fruit show in picture 2 is cone-like. Not the most beautiful tree/brush, but the Speckled Alder thickets are very important for wildlife. The turkeys hide and build nests in them. I have found many caterpillars on them and the deer always run to hide in them.

Habitat:

Along waterways.
