A large mushroom- almost as big as my foot- see second photo.
I don't see any gills so that would seem to rule out Paxillus. Looks to me like some if the species in the genus Polyporus, especially P. varius. But that would require it to be growing on buried wood.
Could this be Paxillus involutus (Brown roll rim)? I can't positively ID it
