Southern Black Widow

Latrodectus mactans

Description:

This female Black Widow had an egg sac under a log in my yard. When I rolled the log, this was the position she was in. I don't know if it's a defensive posture or if she froze when the log moved, but it resulted in a pretty cool shot.

Habitat:

Under a log in yard, near pond & forest.
