Breadfruit Fruit Fly

Bactrocera umbrosa

Description:

This is a Breadfruit Fruit Fly that i found on the jack-fruit tree in my backyard. The body of this fruit fly is brown. It has transverse dark bands across the wings, and a few yellow spots on its thorax. The size of this fly is about 5 - 6 mm in length.

Habitat:

- Around the garden and bushes (breadfruit trees).

Notes:

- Fruit fly is an insect from the family Tephritidae. This one is a species that causes considerable damage to breadfruit by ovipositing in ripe breadfruit, but also younger fruits, causing premature ripening and drop of fruits. - http://delta-intkey.com/ffa/www/bac_umbr...
