Rose Ringed Parakeet

Psittacula krameri

Description:

Colourful and noisy 'parrot' ....... parakeet actually, there are no parrots in India. The male has the ring around his neck, females look the same but do not have a ring. Both sexes share in parenting - personally observed!

Habitat:

Urban areas of peninsular India where their food habits have adapted from fruits and berries to grain, chapathies, rice and other food that humans eat!

Notes:

This parakeet and his extended family sit on a pole outside my bedroom window in the city of Bombay/Mumbai!
