Hairy-necked Tiger Beetle

Cicindela hirticollis

Description:

On the large side for a Flashy Tiger Beetle. I'd say around 15mm Head and thorax with long white seta, especially below. Elytra reddish brown with cream colored markings that form a solid, or nearly solid, band running along the lateral margin all the way to the posterior tip. Markings extend towards the midline in three places with the middle markings almost meeting at the midline.

Habitat:

Found on a sandy bank along a narrow river channel. Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge.

Notes:

Active beetle, very tough to get close.

Thanks for the comments everybody. Tiger Beetles are among my favorites. This one, though, was tough to keep up with.
