Barred Owl

Strix varia

Description:

large owl, whitish with dark streaks, round head with no ear tufts

Habitat:

woodlands

Notes:

This owl was eyeing our very large half-Lab through the porch screen. I think he was trying to decide if he could carry her off!

Nice shot, Myra...he/she looks ready to pounce on you! I'd love you to add this to the mission Raptors of North America: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8627...

It is a lot of fun, and a great way to learn of organisms that are not native to your area. It is also a great place to find people who have a great love for wildlife as well. All and all this is one great community, at least that is the way I see it.

Welcome to Project Noah, myraj2. Your owl is indeed a Barred Owl, you should edit this spotting and put its scientific name which is Strix varia, by doing this you will take this out of the unidentified category.
