Red-tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

mostly brown feathers

Habitat:

I live in Sacramento and I see these large birds mostly in open fields near freeways or creeks.

Notes:

I saw these two birds of prey locked together by their talons. My best guess is they could not get untangled while fighting in flight and they fell to the earth.

Okay, I can see it now. I see some reddish retrice feathers, suggesting Buteo jamaicensis calurus, Red-tailed Hawk.

I have one other that I posted. It is of a full view. I wonder why it only show up on my page? I will look into it. Thanks.

Welcome Arthur!
Interesting story! Do you have other photos where we can see the rest of the birds better?
