Oecophylla smaragdina
Met this scavenging party of weaver ants with a giant shield bug, (probably Lyramorpha sp.).
Spotted in a large semi-urban yard and garden from a disturbed patch of remnant tropical forest. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
Weaver ants are fascinating creatures. I have several spottings including series of this species, illustrating their hunting/scavenging habits as well as their colonial nesting behavior and nests.
