Common Snapping Turtle

Chelydra serpentina

Description:

A lovely turtle with some pond algae on its back. The algae on the tail makes it look like a stegosaurus. :-)

Habitat:

Found basking on our driveway, about 100 meters from the nearest body of water. I think it was this far away because it was looking for somewhere to lay eggs, but I'm not sure. This leads me to also believe it is a female.

Notes:

The turtle was relocated to an area near the pond.
