Mephitis mephitis
The Striped Skunk is a medium-sized skunk with a white stripe on either side of its back that extend up over the head and down the sides of its bushy tail.
Digging and eating on a hillside beside the road. They eat a varied diet of both plants and animals. Insects form the bulk of their diet, but they also eat reptiles, small mammals, birds, and vegetation.
Striped Skunks are largely nocturnal and rarely leave their dens until evening, returning early in the morning. This skunk was feeding all day long - getting ready for winter.

Dixie -Happy to post to Biodiversity of Texas. Yes - had a telephoto.
I'm curious Ron. Did you use a super telephoto lens or did you dare to get up close? I probably would have gotten up close and paid the price! Nice series and thanks for posting to Biodiversity of Texas!
