Rhodofomes cajanderi
Semicircular shelf mushrooms with wavy edges that are salmon to light brown (leather) colored with blackening near attachment points. Pore surface is dirty pink and seems more “bumpy” than “pored.” There is no stem or stipe. These specimens were bulky and dense. They were quite thick near the attachment points and tapered dramatically towards the edge. Rhodofomes cajanderi is usually associated with conifers and causes brown pocket rot in several tree species
Found growing gregariously on deadwood at the base of a ridge in a dense mixed hardwood forest (with some pines). Northwest Georgia (Gordon County), US.
