Hairy Christmas Beetle

Anoplognathus velutinus

Description:

A robust christmas beetle with well-rounded dorsal surface. The elytra and thorax was a uniformly creamy brown colour and densely covered with bristly setae. The underside of the beetle also had a dense cover of setae. The elytra appeared to have a couple of dark brown spots on either side near the thorax and a few spots at the posterior end.

Habitat:

Spotted under bright lights near National Park

Notes:

Very sluggish ! A rounder and bigger beetle than the more frequently seen Christmas Beetle. Thanks to stho002 for the ID. Family: Scarabaeidae
