Eastern Giant swallowtail

Papilio cresphontes

Description:

missing some bits of the wings but still the largest butterfly in Canada and the United States, wingspan of about 10–16 cm (3.9–6.3")

Habitat:

meadow

Notes:

This was the first butterfly I spotted during a 4 hour hike in Short Hills. It was my fist time spotting this species. I first learned about it on Noah and knew what it was as soon as I saw it. I can now say I've seen the biggest moth -Cecropia moth, and the biggest butterfly in US and Canada.

Thanks Maria and Angel. Missing some parts of the wing didn't seem to affect this butterfly at all.
