Wasp

Description:

Wasp hive

Notes:

I set this hive in the backyard and recently moved it since it only has two occupied cells. I believe it was in too much sun. It is now in a shaded part of the garden about three feet off the ground. I'm reticent to move it too close to the house where there is more shelter.

Thanks all. I'm new to Project Noah and just figuring things out. I sense this will derail me from other activities, but it is also a great way to pursue my recent interests in hymenoptera as well as other critters.

The nest is pre manufactured and very disappointing. It is Masonite so it hasn't held up well to moisture. I'm fairly certain that the cell larvae have not survived the heat. They should have hatched already. I recently moved the hive to a shadier location. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have so many different wasps in the garden that I'm certain the proper location will make a difference.

I have a winter project in mind, crafting wasp hives of different shapes and sizes that will line my backyard fence. I think the hives need a bit of a "roof" to protect from water and too much sun.

Tim, I'll look for the "architecture" mission. I love all things nest related.

you can also "catch" Megachilid bees nesting on this tubes

After looking at the spotting more carefully, I see that you have included this spotting in a mission to document hymenoptera. Remember that you can tag a spotting in up to five missions.

There is a mission specifically for wildlife architecture, though I don't have a link to it. It looks like one of the tubes is occupied. Perhaps you could edit your spotting later on, once you have more occupants. This is a great idea!

Hi Bob! Fabulous idea. Did you 'size' the tubes for any particular wasp? Welcome to Project Noah by the way. Although this is verging on a 'non-spotting' (can't see a species) I guess we can say there is a wasp in there somewhere? You might need to add a glimpse of one if possible... but I love it!
