Great Black-backed Gull

Larus marinus

Description:

Largest in the gull family. Very aggressive, preys on terns and puffins. Oppurtunistic scavengers, who also catch fish. A bulky gull with a powerful bill.

Habitat:

European and North American coasts and islands of the North Atlantic. Some Black-backs move farther south or inland to large lakes or reservoirs.

Notes:

This gull caught a flounder - and was running (not flying) away from anything that got close to it. It was eating quite enthusiastically.
