Description:

Wildflowers with notched, bright red petals and lance-shaped leaves. Silene virginica is within the Caryophyllaceae (carnation) family. Its primary pollinator is Archilochus colubris (The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird).

Habitat:

Growing on the side of a road on a sunny hillside at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Marietta, Georgia.
