Patalene olyzonaria
Although the first picture makes this moth look like a beheMOTH, this little moth only reaches a maximum wingspan of about 25 mm. The first picture also shows a proboscis, which the moth was using as a feeler, possibly trying to find nutrients. Thanks so much for a great Moth Week! The first of many to come! Thanks to every single member on here for their beautiful contributions, and for making sure moths loose their "drab" stereotype!
Larvae feed on Juniper (Juniperus spp.), occasionally Northern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis), and possibly pine.
