Superb Fairy wren

Malurus cyaneus

Description:

A passerine bird of the Maluridae family, common and familiar across south-eastern Australia. The species is sedentary and territorial, also exhibiting a high degree of sexual dimorphism; the male in breeding plumage has a striking bright blue forehead, ear coverts, mantle, and tail, with a black mask and black or dark blue throat. This male is moulting out of his bright breeding plumage and into his dull winter feathers.

Habitat:

Dry sclerophyll bushland.

They are quite the little charmers. The males here have colored up early and I expect quite the breeding season (2-3 clutches each pair).

Thanks for your comments Lori, this little blue wren visits my home daily with his female friends (Jenny Wrens) and to my surprise wandered in through an opening in the screen door of my house. I had quite a time trying to persuade him to leave, however he serenaded me with some lovely birdsong, I'll never forget it.
