Wire Coral Goby

Bryaninops yongei

Description:

This approximately 1" fish spends their entire life on wire coral strands. They have also been known to spend time on substitutes,,,pipes, wire strands, etc. Those I have observed run up and down the coral, and will not leave, They have a symbiotic relationship with the coral...the goby has a place to live, and in exchange they protect the coral against various small pests. This spotting was deep, at about 110'.

Habitat:

This spotting was off the west coast of the big island, Hawaii,
