Bearded Weevil mating and courtship)

Rhinostomus barbirostris

Description:

A relatively large weevil, I estimate about 5 cm, I saw a group of 4 males courting a female, the males pushed each other, until a stronger one made the others fly or run, the mating was quick and happened twice. These beetles came out of a rotten trunk of coconut palm, very close to a relatively old forest. Males use the filaments that look like a brush to give small massages, on the female's body.

Habitat:

Rainforest edges , fallen palm trunks

Notes:

Also known as Bottlebrush Weevil

Nice catch Jonathan. These are funny little guys that will rear up on their hind legs when threatened, looking funnier to me, but maybe scarier to predators. Thanks for sharing.
