Chamaecyparis nootkatensis
Female cones are green, about 13 mm long, and have recurved, central hooks on each scale. They mature in spring.
Nootka False Cypress is a conical tree with drooping branches and vertical, flattened sprays of bluish green to dark green foliage. The bark is reddish brown and shaggy.
Growing along the edge of a meadow.
This plant was originally described in the genus Cupressus, which many botanist consider to be correct, but has also been placed in Chamaecyparis and Xanthocyparis. Some strong evidence suggests, however, that it should perhaps be placed in the genus Callitropsis. I've left it as Chamaecyparis nootkatensis for now.
