Description:

Adult has grey back and upperwings, white underparts, red legs and reddish bill. In summer acquires chocolate brown hood.

Habitat:

Common colonial breeder at lakes in vast reedbeds or marshy areas, also on ponds near coasts.

Notes:

Spotted on a shallow river.
