Pileated Woodpecker

Dryocopus pileatus

Description:

This female woodpecker was caught up in fishing line. The lure was wedged in her mouth and the fishing line was tangled around her entire body. We managed to slowly cut the line from her and she managed a successful flight when we were done :)

Habitat:

Forests throughout eastern South Carolina

Great rescue! I had to do this once with a heron that was caught in fishing line. Glad you got to it in time.
