Giant Ichneumon Wasp

Megarhyssa atrata

Description:

A very patient subject for my photography, perhaps because she was so busy herself.

Habitat:

Spotted on a tree in northern Illinois USA.

Notes:

In some of the corresponding shots, there is another wasp that was in close proximity to the darker one. Are they both Ichneumon Wasps, one male and one female?
