Description:

The Cardinal is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. The wingspan is 64–80 mm. The butterfly flies from May to August depending on the location.The front or upper surface of the wings are greenish-olive with numerous black lines and dots. The back is green and cadmium red gold with black spots. The larvae feed on Viola species.

Habitat:

It is common throughout southern Europe, but is also found in northern Africa, and western and central Asia.
