Dahl's Whip Snake

Platyceps najadum

Description:

My husband rescued this little snake from one of the local cats. It had lost part of its tail, but the bleeding had stopped so hopefully it will heal ok. I have identified it as a Dahl Whip Snake which are native to Turkey, where we live as well as Western Europe and Syria and Iraq. This one was about 10 inches (25 cms) long, although would have been a bit longer before losing the end of his tail. It was very thin only about .39 inches or about 1 cm at the thickest point just below his head.
