Arizona Blonde Tarantula-male

Aphonopelma chalcodes

Description:

This docile spider is called "blonde" because the female has lighter tan hairs on her legs. The male spends most of his time inside his burrow, but near the end of his life, he emerges to search for a mate. The tarantulas we see wandering at night during the summer rainy season are usually males, as the females stay close to their own burrows.

Habitat:

Desert scrub
