Sand Wasp

Bicyrtes quadrifasciatus

Description:

Sand Wasps are predators on various groups of insects. Bicyrtes species prey on stink bug nymphs to feed to their young. Females excavate nests in course sandy soil. Adults feed on nectar and can be found foraging on a wide variety of plants including Dogbane & milkweeds.

Habitat:

Eastern North America. Areas of dry sandy soil for nest excavating & areas of weedy flowers.

Notes:

Observed on Shasta Daisy (Leucanthemum x superbum)
