Acacia flower gall

Trichilogaster acaciaelongifoliae

Description:

This is an infestation by a small wasp. This gall forms on flower buds of the silver wattle and the pink balls develop with curious dots where each floret would have been. Pic 2 is the healthy flower (cluster of florets). Pic 3 is the insect chamber.

Notes:

Trichilogaster acaciaelongifoliae is the parasite wasp and its chamber is shown in the dissection. It can also form on stems. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/155...

Sorry Martin, it was a rhetorical question - I know your maps are accurate. It's just great that you find all these weird and wonderful galls !!

My pin is now quite accurate. This fairly large acacia tree has more florets infested than not. Lincoln Rd has been very productive for me especially when mushrooms were prolific.

Quite nice colours in there martin. At least wattles give us something of interest in August.
