Rutilia Fly

Rutilia (Chrysorutilia) formosa

Description:

A moderate size (15 mm) fly with golden metallic sheen on thorax and abdomen. wings were clear except for a dark band near the wing base. The abdomen had stiff balck setae.

Habitat:

Spotted amongst dry eucalyptus logs in a flora reserve.

Notes:

Larvae of these flies are parasitic on beetle larvae (Scarabaeidae).
Family: Tachinidae
Subfamily: Dexiinae

Thanks Cindy. Isn't the colour just great. They were not as cooperative as the plainer rutilia flies; I would have loved to got other angles.

I like this one. The markings on the wings are quite different than I've seen before. Nice spotting, Leuba!
