The male can be differentiated from Libellula depressa (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/119...) because its abdomen is longer and thinner and misses the brown triangular shapes at the base of the 4 wings.

Habitat:

Widespread in Europe. The species is found in largely unshaded standing or slow-flowing waters.
