Amenia imperialis
A medium sized fly with a bright yellow head, orange aristae, shiny black body with some white spots; the last few abdominal segments were also yellow although duller. About 12mm.
On a eucalyptus leaf in a local nature reserve.
Only one shot unfortunately. Females give birth to developed larvae that are parasites of land snails. http://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:b... order: DIPTERA zoological_division: CYCLORRHAPHA superfamily: OESTROIDEA family: CALLIPHORIDAE subfamily: Ameniinae tribe: Ameniini

New Year's fad Sergio. It'll pass.
One think that awes me is "convergent evolution", how two different creatures evolve the same shape and colors, sometimes for different reasons too! http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/124...
It is very hard to tell, but when I saw this photo I really thoguht that it was taken with a macro-lens. Perhaps your cameras complement eachother in such ways that it is good to keep both of them?
Thanks Stephan and Tiz. No about the camera. The story is my 'good' is broken and I'm back to using an old 'toy' pocket cam. You think it's better ?? I'll ask for my money back on the newer one then.
Looks like the fly at the end of the movie "The Fly" ;-) Good find
Mark, do you have a new camera? Nice fly that managed to find you :)
