Thanks for all your help - I will be much more diligent in making note of it's surroundings. I can tell you there are mostly poplars and fir trees in the area, (Jack pine and white pine) also some birch.

That is a Leccinum for sure, but it's too old to tell which one. With these mushrooms it is important you write down the tree it stands under and the color change when you touch it or expose the flesh to oxygen.
