Mustang Grape

Vitis mustangensis

Description:

Vigorous drought, heat, and disease resistant vine. Near streams, old vines may be more than 40 feet long with a trunk base as large as that of a tree. Fruit is sour and dark purple.

Habitat:

Dry, rocky, limestone soil. The vine had climbed into a juniper tree and was using it for support.

Notes:

The grapes are sour but can be used to make jelly and wine.
