Silver wattle flower gall

Description:

Flower stalk on a silver wattle tree showed a green gall with fused flower heads. A dissected gall shows a tiny white larva, probably that of a gall wasp.

Habitat:

Silver wattle - Acacia

Notes:

For similar but interesting looking galls, here's martinl's spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/128... Also a flickr photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/57768042@N0...

Thank you Martin. Although these were not very difficult to spot, I might not have paid much attention had I not seen your spotting. So, thanks !
I felt terrible when I cut the gall open however, there were quite a few so, hopefully I didn't too too much damage to the wasp numbers.

Nice series Leuba. One of us will have to locate the adult wasp or grow one out. They should look something like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/casseris/43...
