Braconid wasp

Description:

Black, with red abdomen and black wings. Small, under 10 mm in body length.

Habitat:

Suburban neighborhood on western fringe of eastern deciduous forest. Female wasp seen ovipositing on log section cut from a huge, fallen limb of Pin Oak in our front yard.

Notes:

The cut wood has attracted potential hosts of this parasitoid wasp in the form of longhorned beetles and jewel beetles.
