Yellow Wagtail

Motacilla flava ssp

Description:

The only certainty is that this is a Yellow Wagtail. Although the breeding males of the different sub-species have very distinct head patterns the first spring males and all the females can all look remarkably similar at this time of year. My own feeling is that it is a male Spanish Yellow Wagtail as the others tend to be slightly more bluish on the head. As there are 4-5 sub-species passing through in mixed flocks at the moment I have left this as undetermined ssp.

Habitat:

Fields near coastal marshes
