Cooper’s Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Description:

A medium-sized hawk, about 16 in. or 40.5 cm, with broad, rounded wings and a very long tail. The tail is rounded at the tip with the middle tail feathers the longest. In Cooper’s Hawks, the head often appears large, the shoulders broad, and the tail rounded. Adults are steely blue-gray above with warm reddish bars on the underparts and thick dark bands on the tail.

Habitat:

In a tree near a meadow in a greenbelt near a new housing development.
