Northern Watersnake

Nerodia sipedon

Description:

About a foot long, brown head, dark brown bands across a light brown body.

Notes:

I found this little snake (juvenile, I believe) crossing the street at dusk. My husband and I coaxed him back to the curb and up into the grass.

I bet you're right; it does look like a Northern Watersnake. I was thrown because it wasn't near an immediate water source; however, though there is a lake a quarter mile down the road.
