Looked like a whole family of cross-bills playing in the sprinkler puddles.
These were up on Lookout Mountain...they made a very brief visit...and I had to look at the pictures to figure out they were crossbills!! I've seen them on shows and it's almost like watching a parrot eat! They push their bills sideways apart between the pine cones to open it up and reach for the seed with their tongue...fascinating!
Whoa! What are these?! Cross bill of some kind? I didn't know we had these in CO. Awesome spotting!
