Bee Fly

Poecilognathus sp.

Description:

Fly with long legs and abdomen. It has a long proboscis that it repeatedly stabbed the flower with. The eyes have two different colors with a black, horizontal stripe in between. The abdomen has black markings on top and along the sides. The thorax has vertical, dark stripes. The wings are clear other than dark veining.

Habitat:

Unknown flower in riparian area

Love this series! You did great again on the clarity!

I got a quick response from BugGuide saying this is a type of Bee Fly. I'm surprised. I'll update the ID when they provide a species.
